A useful thank-you for visiting: a GardinerHardware.com matching sheet you can print, check, laminate and keep beside the toolbox.
Your free printable matching gauge
The two-page tool includes a 6-inch ruler marked in eighths, a 150 mm ruler, nominal screw-diameter circles, ten inch-thread spacing comparisons and a reusable project-notes area. Keep both sides together or print double-sided without scaling.
Print it so the measurements mean something
- Choose the PDF that matches your paper.
- Select Actual size or 100%. Turn off Fit, Shrink and any printer scaling.
- Measure the 2-inch and 50 mm calibration lines with a known ruler. Both must be correct.
- If you laminate it, keep it flat and check both lines again afterward.
- If either check is wrong, reprint with corrected settings before measuring hardware.
The PDF has exact drawing geometry; your printer and paper determine the physical result. A browser preview or a screenshot is not a scale check.
Use it to narrow the search
Compare the screw's threaded outside width rather than its head. Check where length starts for that head style. For thread spacing, align several crests with the comparison marks. Confirm the likely match with calipers, a proper thread gauge and the actual mating specification. Never force a nut or a screw into a hole to make a possible match work.
The circles are not pilot-drill sizes and the sheet is not a certified go/no-go gauge. It cannot identify strength grade, alloy, wear, thread form or a safe load from appearance.
