SCIENCE · TRADITION · ART

Materials are never just materials.

Copper conducts electricity and changes color with time. Stones carry geological history. Resin can preserve a fragment or bring different materials together. Alongside those physical qualities are the stories, traditions, and personal meanings people attach to them.

The Material Connection explores both sides of that conversation: what materials do, what people have believed about them, and why an object can become meaningful. Copper, metals, stones, resin, and the maker’s workbench provide a way into questions that reach beyond jewelry.

A curious look, with room for evidence and meaning.

The book brings science, tradition, art, and personal connection into the same discussion. A material’s emotional or symbolic importance does not have to become a medical promise to matter.

For makers, collectors, jewelry wearers, and curious skeptics, it offers another way to understand the things we choose to keep close.

MEET THE AUTHOR

Jeremy Abram

Jeremy is the maker behind Designs By J. His work moves between jewelry and writing, with a shared interest in materials, experimentation, and the meaning an object can carry.

From the original Industrial Style Collection to Maine Tourmaline, sea glass, and hand-wound copper, each collection offers a different expression of that curiosity. Memorial Chamber options on selected pieces extend the work into personal keepsakes and remembrance.
