For habit drinkers, alcohol use is rarely debated internally. There is no big craving — just a familiar sequence:

  • Time → Place → Action → Repeat

Common routines

  • Drink poured automatically at a certain hour
  • Same chair, same glass, same show
  • Alcohol paired with dinner or cooking
  • Weekend patterns that feel “locked in”

Why it sneaks up

  • No obvious loss of control at first
  • Low emotional intensity
  • Feels “normal” and non-problematic
  • Change feels oddly uncomfortable

Habits don’t respond to motivation.
